The Artist: A master of the art of silkscreening, Michael Cobb combines imagination and a superb sense of design to create truly scintillating works. Cobb has a particular knack for combining colors, shapes and gestures - perhaps no surprise considering his art education. He was privately tutored by John Ringen in the late 1960s and was a printmaking student of Max Hayslette's in the 1970's. His first edition was published shortly after he joined Olympus Atelier in 1978.
Cobb has studied and worked almost exclusively in the northwestern United States. He is a graduate of the Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle, Washington. His work is displayed in many private and corporate collections such as the IBM Corporation, AT&T, Bank of Hawaii, United Airlines, Merrill Lynch, and Xerox Corporation.
The Story: The gallery label, verso, lists that the print came from Evelyn Aimis Fine Art, a gallery formerly of Toronto and now located in Miami. Cobb travelled extensively gathering inspiration from the places he visited. Inspiration for this particular print, titled "Bridge at Tokara", could be from the Tokara winery in South Africa which has a similar structure for tasting and looking out over an expansive landscape. However, at Wall Fiction, we believe in surrounding yourself with interesting original art to help you create your own stories.
