The Artist: Pol Rab (Paul Abraham, French, 1898-1933)
Pol Rab was born in Paris. He was a member of the Salon des Humorists from 1919 until he died in 1933. He received the Grand Prix aux Art Decorative. He created posters for theater and for travel, musical theater program covers, sheet music covers, postcards, and advertisements. He is most famous for his cartoon about the adventures of a wire fox terrier named Ric and his buddy a Scottish Terrier named Rac. Ric and Rac became a phenomenon bordering on an obsession in Paris and beyond.
The Story: His strip cartoon was featured in the French paper, 'Le Rire'. It followed the adventures of Ric and Rac, two terriers who got up to all sorts of risqué adventures! This lithograph was reproduced at a later time than when the cartoon ran in the newspaper however this print is an original from the height of the Art Deco period. Beautifully framed and ready to hang.
