The Artist: Robert Katz (1952)

Robert Katz is a Canadian post-war artist who is recognizably known for his impressionistic portraits of female subjects. Born in Romania, Katz studied at L'école des Beaux Arts in France and lived across Europe before immigrating to Canada in 1977.

Robert Katz is an established contemporary artist and was predominantly influenced creatively by the 1970s. The 1970s were a period of consolidation and growth in the arts most often characterized as a response to the past.
