The Artist: Marie Lannoo (Canadian, 1954-)
Saskatoon artist Marie Lannoo studied at York University, University of Saskatchewan and attended Emma Lake artist workshops. She participated in residencies in Virton, Belgium and at the Banff School of Fine Arts.
Lannoo has exhibited provincially, nationally and internationally. Selected exhibitions include Hong Kong Arts Centre, Wei Gallery, China, Elaine Jacob Gallery, Detroit, the Lightbox, NYC, Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Yellowknife Art Gallery, McLaren, Barrie, Mendel, Saskatoon, Remai Modern, Saskatoon, Mackenzie Art Gallery, Regina, Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton, Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Charlottetown.

The Story:
This work is from Tatar Gallery, Toronto where the artist showed early in her career. In one of Canada's most influential abstract resources, Roald Nasgaard lists Lannoo as one to watch at the turn of the millennium. The "surfaces are smooth, high-gloss and very responsive to their surroundings." (Abstract Painting in Canada, 2007. Pg 393)

It's hard to photograph these paintings because the colour is so fabulously intense. So I propped the two 12 x 12 inch paintings together on a table in the office to show them in a different setting. See image below.
