The Artist: Robert-Emile Fortin (Canadian,1945-2004)

Robert-Emile Fortin was born in Quebec and after his mother died when he was two, he was raised at orphanages in Aylmer and Ottawa. He spent summers at his grandmother's farm. He began working as a graphic artist with the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources and later taught at the University of Ottawa. He studied at the Ottawa School of Art and studied throughout Europe. He's had numerous group and solo shows. He opened his gallery in Mont Tremblant in July 1998 and his work can be found in collections around the world.

The Story: The artist called his work naive. Wall Fiction calls it fun and collectible French-Canadian folk art still sold at Canadian galleries. The artist inscribed this piece for the collectors on the back when they bought it directly from him. The consignors love the piece but have way too many pieces and would love it to find a new home.

Please note: Actual colours in painting are brighter and deeper than in the photos.
