Gerda Neubacher is a contemporary Austrian/Canadian painter, designer and author known for her unique ability to fuse European artistic craftsmanship with a distinctly Canadian sensibility. Born in Austria in 1936, she relocated to Switzerland during her early years to study art and specialized fashion design, a background that heavily informed her meticulous understanding of composition, harmony, and the fluid contours of the human form. In 1967, she immigrated to Canada with her husband, Fred, initially settling in areas like Milton, Ontario, before eventually moving further north toward Toronto and the Haliburton region, where she has operated as a professional fine artist and independent art consultant. Her extensive fine art portfolio ranges from large-scale, luminous oil and tempera paintings to intimate, small-format landscape works—such as her noted 1970s wilderness pieces capturing Ontario forest trilliums and daisies—which are praised by collectors for their delicate balance of realism and atmospheric impressionism.

Beyond her primary easel painting practice, Neubacher established a highly successful global profile throughout the 1980s and 1990s in the realm of decorative and commercial arts. She famously collaborated with major global institutions, including the Franklin Mint and Disney, to design high-end collectible porcelain figurines, including a widely recognized Cinderella doll in 1988, alongside production plates featuring intricate romantic, fantasy, and North American wildlife scenes.

She is also an accomplished literary illustrator, lending her artistic hand to classic children's fairy tale books like Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio.
